Missouri Native Grasslands Collaborative
MoNGC Mission Statement
"The MoNGC seeks to promote all aspects of Missouri native grasslands, implement the recommendations of stakeholders, elevate public awareness, and support those who want to make an impact for the benefit of current and future generations."
MoNGC Collaborative Goals
Expand Native Plantings
Expansion of native grassland plantings is crucial given the continued loss of native
grassland acres in the state, the continued loss of native biodiversity, and the vital ecosystem
functions that healthy native grasslands provide - in rural, suburban and urban parts of
Missouri.
Retain Native Grassland Remnants
Less than 0.1% of our original Missouri prairies remain. Cattle producers and other landowners
are vital to keeping the remaining native prairie grasslands on the landscapе.
Advance Science and Education
To fulfill our vision, we will apply and share research to promote BMPs for native grassland
expansion and sustainability, educate landowners, homeowners and decision makers AND
support programs that benefit native grasslands.
Enhance Communication and Collaboration
The MoNGC network can be utilized to enhance coordination, communication and
collaboration among partners, interested landowners and homeowners. Promote the native
plant/seed industry to ensure we have the materials to facilitate new plantings.
Support for communities, homeowners, producers and landowners.
The MoNGC will work to expand or improve native
grasslands to address a variety of
resource, economic and social concerns.
